FAQ
What makes Argentine red shrimp different from other shrimp?
Argentine red shrimp are large, naturally red, and known for their sweet, lobster-like flavor. Unlike farmed shrimp, they are wild-caught in the cold waters off Argentina’s southern coast. Their unique flavor and tender texture set them apart.
Are Argentine red shrimp farmed or wild-caught?
Our Argentine Red Shrimp are wild caught off the coast of Argentina, located in the Southwest of the Atlantic ocean. FAO 41 (catch area)
Why are they red even when raw?
Unlike most shrimp, Argentine red shrimp are naturally red due to the high levels of astaxanthin, a carotenoid pigment. This pigmentation is unique to the species.
Do Argentine red shrimp have a different texture?
Yes, they are softer than other types of shrimp, such as Gulf white shrimp. Some people describe the texture as more delicate.
These shrimp cook quickly due to their softness. They can be grilled, sautéed, or boiled, but overcooking should be avoided as it can lead to a mealy texture.
